  22. EXT. SPACE - THE ENTERPRISE-C (OPTICAL)
  23.  
  24. Scene is of deep space interrupted only by a distant nebula or
  25. other touch of color.  Suddenly the Enterprise, designated NCC-
  26. 1701-C, enters the scene.  Camera closes on the ship as it
  27. passes.  We hear the voice of RACHEL GARRETT, Captain of the
  28. Enterprise-C as the OPTICAL continues.

  31.                            GARRETT (V.O.)
  32.           Captain's Log, Stardate 21436.25.  The
  33.           Enterprise is on assignment in the area
  34.           bordering the Klingon Neutral Zone.
  35.           Although the Federation continues to
  36.           negotiate a peace with the Klingons, it is
  37.           rumored that hostilities between the
  38.           Klingons and their former allies the
  39.           Romulans are heating up.
  40.  
  41.  
  42. INT. MAIN BRIDGE ENTERPRISE-C
  43.  
  44. Shift to an establishing shot of the bridge of the Enterprise-C
  45. as the voice over continues.  GARRETT is seated in the center
  46. chair.  LT. RICHARD CASTILLE sits at the Navigation helm
  47. station, both are as they appeared in the episode Yesterday's
  48. Enterprise.   SUPERNUMERARIES at other stations as needed,
  49. including a young female COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER and an older
  50. male FIRST OFFICER at the sensor station.

  53.                            GARRETT (V.O.)
  54.           Although the Federation has not heard nor
  55.           seen any activity from the Romulans in
  56.           close to thirty years, intelligence sources
  57.           noted flare-ups of fierce fighting between
  58.           the two warrior races.
  59.  
  60. GARRETT sits upright in her command chair studying the calm
  61. efficiency of her crew.  Behind her, her COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
  62. looks up as an indication comes across her workstation's
  63. control panel.
  64.  
  65.  
  66.                            COMM OFFICER
  67.           Captain, I'm picking up a distress call
  68.           coming in from  . . . within Klingon space.
  69.           An outpost of theirs on a planet called
  70.           Norendra III.
  71.                     (a beat)
  72.           They report being under attack by Romulan
  73.           forces.  They request immediate assistance
  74.           from any ships in the vicinity.

  76.  
  77.                            GARRETT
  78.           Mr. Castille, do you read any other vessels
  79.           in the vicinity?
  80.  
  81.  
  82.                            CASTILLE
  83.           No, Captain, nothing within several light
  84.           years.  Of course, we are not in range of
  85.           that system yet.  We would have to cross
  86.           over into Klingon territory to be sure.
  87.  
  88.  
  89.                            GARRETT
  90.                     (to Communications)
  91.           Lieutenant, open a hailing frequency to the
  92.           Klingons, identify us and give our
  93.           position.
  94.  
  95.                            COMM OFFICER
  96.           Aye, Sir, opening hailing frequencies.
  97.  
  98.  
  99.                            GARRETT
  100.           Mr. Castille, set an intercept course to
  101.           the Klingon outpost, ahead warp factor two.
  102.           Keep the sensors pealed for any vessels or
  103.           disturbances in the area.  Remember both
  104.           the Klingons and the Romulans have cloaking
  105.           devices.
  106.                     (a beat)
  107.           Bring us to the edge of the Neutral Zone,
  108.           but do not enter until I give you the word.

  111.                            COMM OFFICER
  112.           Hailing frequencies open, Captain.  I have
  113.           Governor General Kangmore of Norendra III.
  114.  
  115.  
  116.                            GARRETT
  117.           On screen.
  118.  
  119. An older, slim Klingon appears on the main viewing screen.  He
  120. seems upset, even for a Klingon.

  122.  
  123.                            KANGMORE
  124.           You are from the Federation, yet you heed
  125.           our call of distress?
  126.  
  127.  
  128.                            GARRETT
  129.           Yes, in the Federation we believe in
  130.           helping our neighbors, Governor General.
  131.                     (a beat)
  132.           We are heading in your direction, can you
  133.           give us the details of your situation?
  134.  
  135.  
  136.                            KANGMORE
  137.           We are under heavy attack by at least four
  138.           Romulan war vessels.  They came in under
  139.           cloak and destroyed many of our planetary
  140.           defense systems before we could recover.
  141.  
  142.  
  143.                            KANGMORE (CONT)
  144.                     (mumbled)
  145.           They have no honor !
  146.  
  147. Explosions can be heard in the background at the Klingon
  148. outpost.  One particularly loud one punctuates Kangmore's
  149. speech at this point.
  150.  
  151.  
  152.                            KANGMORE (CONT)
  153.           We will cannot hold out much longer,
  154.           Enterprise.  Can you assist us?
  155.  
  156. Garrett is skeptical, but before she can speak the General's
  157. location is hit and they lose their connection.
  158.  
  159.  
  160.                            GARRETT
  161.                     (After a thoughtful pause)
  162.           Helm, give me maximum warp speed.  Take us
  163.           into Klingon space, Mr. Castille!
  164.  
  165.  
  166.                            CASTILLE
  167.           Aye, Sir, going to maximum warp now!
  168.  
  169.  
  170.                            GARRETT
  171.           We're going in people, look sharp!
  172.  
  173.  
  174. EXT. SPACE - THE ENTERPRISE-C (OPTICAL)
  175.  
  176. Enterprise-C takes off into warp space.  Effect is something
  177. between the multicolored of the Star Trek motion pictures and
  178. the Next Generation warp effect.  The ship is then seen
  179. cruising at warp speed.  The effect is similar to the Next
  180. Generation, but doesn't look as FAST as the Enterprise-D.

  183. INT. MAIN BRIDGE ENTERPRISE-C (OPTICAL)
  184.  
  185. Much as before, the bridge is silent, Garrett studies the main
  186. viewer as we close in on her.
  187.

  189.                            GARRETT
  190.           ETA to Norendra III, Mr. Castille?
  191.  
  192.  
  193.                            CASTILLE
  194.           Within sensor range in thirty seconds, Sir.
  195.           ETA at Norendra III in ten minutes, at
  196.           current speed.
  197.  
  198.  
  199.                            GARRETT
  200.           Very well, Mister.  Go to red alert, raise
  201.           shields.  Phasers and photon torpedoes on
  202.           standby.
  203.  
  204.  
  205. EXT. SPACE - ENTERPRISE-C AND ROMULANS
  206.  
  207. Just then, three Romulans come out of cloak around the
  208. Enterprise and catch her by surprise.  She is hit before she
  209. can raise shields, but puts up a valiant fight.  They raise
  210. shields and fire at the Romulans, destroying one with a lucky
  211. shot.

  213.  
  214. INT. MAIN BRIDGE ENTERPRISE-C
  215.  
  216. As the Enterprise-C is being attacked go back and forth from
  217. bridge to space or main viewer scenes.
  218.  
  219.  
  220.                            GARRETT
  221.           Damn it, get those shields up!  Fire
  222.           phasers!
  223.                     (a beat)
  224.           Mr. Castille, plot a course around those
  225.           ships to Norendra III, and get us out of
  226.           here!
  227.  
  228. Castille works his console and executes.  They pull sharply to
  229. one side.
  230.  
  231.  
  232. EXT. SPACE - ENTERPRISE-C AND ROMULANS
  233.  
  234. The Enterprise-C pulls away from the two remaining Romulans and
  235. warps away.  But, as they near Norendra III another Romulan
  236. ship appears in their path and begins to fire at them.  They
  237. take a beating from the three ships before they can get away.
  238. They let the Romulans have it with all they have and then try
  239. to move out of the path of their fire.

  242. INT. MAIN BRIDGE ENTERPRISE-C
  243.  
  244.  
  245.                            GARRETT
  246.           Castille, come about to 119 mark 010.
  247.           Let's try to draw them away from the
  248.           colony.  Give me everything left in the
  249.           engines.
  250.  
  251. Castille does the maneuver.
  252.  
  253.  
  254.                            CASTILLE
  255.           Coming to 119 mark zero one zero, going to
  256.           warp 7.
  257.  
  258. They are hit again and several people are hurt or killed,
  259. including the first officer who is behind Garrett and to stage
  260. left.
  261.  
  262.  
  263.                            GARRETT
  264.           Castille, take over the sensor station.
  265.                     (points to someone off screen)
  266.           You, take the helm, quickly.
  267.  
  268. The remaining three Romulan ships turn on the Enterprise with a
  269. vengeance.
